mwbgOct-4 (octamer-binding transcription factor 4) è una mwbwproteina coinvolta nell'auto-rinnovamento di mwcacellule embrionali indifferenziate. Essa è mwcqcodificata dal mwcggene POU5F1.

Oct-4 è presente nei mwdablastomeri, nelle mwdqcellule della mwdglinea germinale, nella mwdwmassa cellulare interna (MCI) ma non nel mweatrofoblasto.

Regola la mwegtrascrizione di numerosi mwewgeni interagendo con mwfafattori di trascrizione presenti in cellule mwfqpluripotenti (SOX2 e mwfgNANOg). Un mwfwgene importante di OCT4 è FgF4 (mwgaFibroblast growth factor 4), la cui trascrizione richiede anche Sox2. OCT4 è presente nelle cellule pluripotenti ed è necessaria per la mwgqpluripotenza stessa.

A seconda del mwgwtessuto mwhaembrionale, essa è presente in concentrazioni differenti, per permetterne il diverso mwhqdifferenziamento:

• Livelli elevatimwia : mwiqipoblasto
• Livelli intermedi: mwiwMCI
• Non presente: trofoectoderma

La demetilazione del mwjwDNA è necessaria per la trascrizione di Oct4 e per permettere il differenziamento richiesto.
